VisitGatwick Airport Evacuates South Terminal; Bomb Squad Deployed for Suspicious Item
Nov 22, 2024, 11:58 AM
London's Gatwick Airport evacuated a large part of its South Terminal on Friday at around 8:20 am as a precaution due to a security incident involving a suspected prohibited item discovered in luggage. Police were called to the terminal, and an explosive ordnance disposal team was deployed to investigate. A security cordon was established, and passengers were not permitted to enter the terminal, while trains were unable to stop at the airport station. Flights were suspended, and passengers faced delays and cancellations. The airport stated that passenger and staff safety was the top priority during the investigation. Later in the day, the South Terminal was reopened after police cleared the security alert, but flight delays remained.
