VisitGary Marcus, 11,500 Creators, Including Thom Yorke and Julianne Moore, Call for Generative AI Boycott
Oct 22, 2024, 03:10 PM
Gary Marcus has proposed a boycott of generative AI companies to push for regulation, citing concerns about the unlicensed use of creative works. This initiative has garnered significant support from the creative community, including high-profile figures such as Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, actress Julianne Moore, novelist Kazuo Ishiguro, and actor Kevin Bacon. Over 11,500 creators, including entities like Penguin Random House, UMG, and SAG-AFTRA, have signed an open letter condemning the practice of using creative works without consent to train AI systems like OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The letter, organized by Ed Newton-Rex, warns of the unjust threat to the livelihoods of artists and calls for immediate action to protect their rights. Additionally, more than 10,500 actors and 6,500+ creators have also joined the protest.
