VisitFTC Sues PBMs CVS, Cigna, UnitedHealth Over Inflated Insulin Prices on Friday
Sep 20, 2024, 04:04 PM
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has filed a lawsuit against the three largest pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) - CVS Caremark, Cigna’s Express Scripts, and UnitedHealth’s OptumRx. The FTC alleges that these PBMs engaged in illegal rebate programs that artificially inflated the cost of insulin, thereby increasing profits at the expense of patients. The lawsuit, filed on Friday, does not name insulin drugmakers Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk, and Sanofi, but the FTC reserves the right to sue these companies later.
