VisitFTC Rule Banning Fake Reviews Goes into Effect, Penalizes Offenders
Oct 22, 2024, 12:21 PM
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has implemented a new rule banning fake online reviews, which goes into effect immediately. The rule targets businesses that knowingly buy, procure, or disseminate fake reviews, including those generated by artificial intelligence, and such businesses will be penalized. The FTC is also addressing consumer review fraud and the buying and selling of fake social media followers. The goal is to eliminate the practice of paying for stellar online reviews for products that might not otherwise receive such positive feedback.
