VisitFTC Refers TikTok Complaint to DOJ's Civil Division Over Privacy Violations
Jun 18, 2024, 07:23 PM
The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has referred a complaint against TikTok and its parent company ByteDance to the Civil Division of the Justice Department. The FTC's investigation found reason to believe that TikTok and ByteDance may be violating the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the FTC Act. The FTC stated that pursuing a case is in the public interest. This follows a previous incident in 2019 when TikTok paid $5.7 million to settle allegations of COPPA violations.
