A fast-moving wildfire named the Franklin Fire has erupted near Malibu, California, prompting evacuation orders for approximately 20,000 residents. Starting on Monday evening in Malibu Canyon, the blaze has rapidly expanded, burning more than 3,983 acres as of the latest update. Fueled by strong winds and dry conditions, the fire has destroyed at least seven homes, damaged eight others, and is threatening over 8,100 structures. Over 1,500 firefighters, including 1,532 personnel, are battling the blaze, which is now 7% contained. The fire has forced evacuations in affluent communities along the Pacific Coast Highway, including Malibu and surrounding areas. Pepperdine University students were instructed to shelter in place as flames approached the campus. Notable residents, including celebrities such as Cher and Dick Van Dyke, have evacuated their homes. Authorities expect improving weather conditions later in the week, which may aid firefighting efforts.
