France Plans 600-Prisoner High-Security Facilities by July 2025 to Combat Narcotrafic
The French government is intensifying its efforts to combat narcotrafic with a series of new measures announced by Minister of Justice Gérald Darmanin. A plan includes the establishment of a high-security prison by the end of July 2025, with two additional facilities to follow within two years. These prisons are intended to house over 600 particularly dangerous narcotraficants. Additionally, a proposed law aimed at strengthening the government's tools against drug trafficking is set to be presented to the Senate. Darmanin's strategy also draws inspiration from Italy's approach to narcotrafic, incorporating high-security neighborhoods and special forces. Éric Ciotti, a member of the UDR, has expressed support for the proposed prison measures and criticized the current juvenile justice system as ineffective.
