Former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on December 29 at the age of 100, is being honored in Washington, D.C., with a state funeral and a series of memorial services. Carter's body arrived at the U.S. Capitol, where he became the 35th person to lie in state in the Rotunda until Thursday. A 21-gun salute was rendered in his honor. Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a eulogy, praising his lifetime of service, humility, and commitment to democracy and humanitarian efforts. House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune also delivered remarks. Congressional leaders, Supreme Court justices, and other dignitaries attended the ceremony to pay their respects to the Southern Democrat and Nobel Peace Prize winner. The funeral services will culminate with a ceremony at the National Cathedral on January 9.
