VisitFormer Child Star Rory Callum Sykes, 32, Dies from Carbon Monoxide Poisoning in Malibu Wildfires
Jan 11, 2025, 11:45 PM
Rory Callum Sykes, a 32-year-old former child star known for his role in the British TV series 'Kiddy Kapers,' has died in the Los Angeles wildfires. Sykes, who was born blind and lived with cerebral palsy, was unable to escape the flames that engulfed his family's 17-acre estate in Malibu. His mother, Shelley Sykes, reported that she was unable to extinguish the fire due to a lack of water, as the water supply had been turned off. Despite her efforts, including a visit to the local fire department for help, she could not save her son, who died from carbon monoxide poisoning in the Palisades Fire. Shelley, who had a broken arm, was unable to move Rory due to his condition. The wildfires, which have devastated over 30,000 acres, have claimed at least 16 lives, with Rory's death not yet included in the official count. Shelley described Rory as a motivational speaker and philanthropist, who had overcome numerous challenges due to his disabilities.
