Ford Motor Co. has agreed to pay a civil penalty of up to $165 million to the U.S. government for delays in recalling over 600,000 vehicles with defective rearview cameras and for providing incomplete recall information. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued this penalty, marking it the second largest in the agency's history. Additionally, Ford is required to review all recalls from the past three years to ensure their completeness and accuracy, and meet with NHTSA officials quarterly.
