VisitFlorida Offloads 37 Million Gallons of Fuel, Restores Power to 2.4 Million
Oct 12, 2024, 03:43 PM
Efforts to reopen Port Tampa Bay are underway with the US Coast Guard and NOAA conducting surveys of the channel. Three Jones Act tankers, Garden State, Pelican State, and Golden State, are awaiting clearance to enter the port. The Pelican State, which is fully loaded with 50,000 tons of fuel (1.2 million gallons), is among the ships anchored off the port. Scheduled tankers include Garden State on October 12 and Overseas Anacortes on October 13. Florida officials announced that 37 million gallons of fuel are being offloaded at the port, with 1 million gallons of gas in reserve. Florida has also restored power to 2.4 million residents since Thursday and is setting up fuel distribution sites where gas stations are unavailable.
