Oct 4, 2024, 12:27 PM
Catastrophic flooding in northern Thailand's Chiang Mai has severely impacted the Elephant Nature Park, forcing the evacuation of over 100 elephants. The flooding, caused by heavy monsoon rains and the remnants of two tropical cyclones, led to the Mae Taeng River overflowing. Rescuers have managed to move 117 elephants to safety, but approximately 10 remain at risk. The park, which is home to various animals including dogs, cats, and buffaloes, is calling for more aid and volunteers to assist in the rescue efforts. Videos show elephants wading through floodwaters to find safety on higher ground.
