Fire at Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu’s Kartalkaya Ski Resort Kills 10, Injures 32

A fire broke out at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Kartalkaya Ski Resort in Bolu, Turkey, early on January 21, 2025, around 3:30 a.m. The blaze started in the hotel's restaurant area and rapidly engulfed the building, where 234 guests were staying. Emergency services, including 267 personnel from agencies such as AFAD, UMKE, fire brigades, and medical teams, were dispatched to control the fire and evacuate guests. A field hospital was established on-site. Some guests used bed sheets to escape, and others reportedly jumped from windows, resulting in injuries; two people died from jumping. Bolu Governor Abdülaziz Aydın stated that initially 3 people had died and 11 were injured, but later updates confirmed that the death toll had risen to 10, with 32 people injured, including several in critical condition. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya also confirmed the casualties and announced that an investigation is underway. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
