Oct 30, 2024, 06:14 AM
A significant fire broke out at Devonshire Dock Hall, part of BAE Systems' nuclear submarine shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The facility, which constructs the UK's nuclear submarines including the Astute-class HMS Agincourt and the forthcoming Dreadnought-class submarines, remains the focus of an ongoing emergency response. Two people have been taken to hospital as a result of the fire. Cumbria Police have stated that there is no nuclear risk, but have advised residents nearby to remain indoors and keep doors and windows closed. BAE Systems said they are working with emergency services to deal with the incident.
