Fethullah Gulen, the leader of the Gulen Movement and a U.S.-based Turkish cleric, has died in Pennsylvania at the age of 83. Gulen, who was also known as an opposition figure, was accused by Ankara of masterminding a coup attempt in Turkey in 2016 and running a parallel state in the country to seize control of some government functions. His death is expected to remove one of the major friction points between Turkey and the United States, particularly regarding the issue of Gulen's extradition, which has been a contentious topic in recent years. Turkish broadcaster NTV confirmed the news.
