VisitFEMA Deploys 30 Starlink Receivers in North Carolina; Trump Coordinates with Musk
Sep 30, 2024, 06:26 PM
The U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has deployed SpaceX's Starlink satellites to restore communications in areas of North Carolina devastated by Hurricane Helene. The hurricane has caused significant infrastructure damage, leaving many regions, including Asheville, in a communication blackout. FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell confirmed the deployment to aid search-and-rescue teams and residents. FEMA plans to install 30 Starlink receivers in western North Carolina to provide immediate connectivity for those in greatest need. Additionally, former President Donald Trump announced that he has spoken with Elon Musk to expedite the setup of Starlink in affected areas, emphasizing the urgency due to the total loss of communication. Trump stated, 'We want to get Starlink hooked up because they have no communication whatsoever. Elon will always come through.' The hurricane has resulted in nearly 64 deaths across five states.
