VisitFederal Judge Issues Temporary Restraining Order on Biden-Backed Gun Background Check Rule on May 19
May 20, 2024, 03:09 AM
A federal judge has issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against a new rule backed by the Biden administration that would expand gun background checks. The rule, set to take effect on Monday, required gun dealers to obtain licenses and conduct background checks when selling firearms at gun shows and online. Judge Kacsmaryk's decision on May 19 partially grants a request for a nationwide TRO, protecting members of organizations such as Gun Owners of America (GOA), Gun Owners Foundation (GOF), Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL), and Texas Firearms Association (TFA). Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who challenged the rule, expressed relief at the court's decision, calling the rule unlawful. The Biden administration's attempt to implement these Universal Registration Checks has been temporarily halted, ensuring the protection of Second Amendment rights for now. H.R. 6734 has been identified as a key piece of Congressional defense against this rule.
