VisitFederal Court Blocks New Title IX Rules in Tennessee and Five Other States
Jun 17, 2024, 07:27 PM
A federal court has blocked the implementation of new Title IX rules in Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, and West Virginia. The injunction was granted following lawsuits filed by these states, arguing that the Biden administration's new rule dramatically alters the purpose and meaning of Title IX. Tennessee AG Jonathan Skrmetti and other state AGs led the charge against the rule, which also impacts protections for LGBTQ students and compels speech from educators. U.S. District Judge Danny C. Reeves noted that the new Title IX rules have serious First Amendment implications.
