VisitFederal Appeals Court Allows Gun Bans in Bars, Parks, Beaches, and Parking Areas in California and Hawaii
Sep 6, 2024, 07:19 PM
A federal appeals court has ruled that California and Hawaii can enforce bans on carrying guns in certain public locations, including bars, parks, beaches, and adjacent parking areas. The Ninth Circuit panel's decision partly reverses lower court orders that had blocked these bans. The ruling, part of the case May v. Bonta, was a split decision. The court upheld the bans in sensitive places such as bars and restaurants that serve alcohol, beaches, and parks, while ruling that guns cannot be prohibited in hospitals, churches, medical facilities, public transit, gatherings requiring a permit, and parking areas attached to these places.
