VisitFede Álvarez Enhances Ian Holm's CGI in 'Alien: Romulus' Home Release After Estate's Permission
Jan 10, 2025, 06:40 PM
Director Fede Álvarez has announced that the controversial CGI depiction of the late actor Ian Holm in 'Alien: Romulus' has been improved for the film's home release. The CGI was used to recreate Holm's likeness for the character Rook, an android in the movie, with permission from Ian Holm's estate. Álvarez admitted that the initial CGI effects were not up to his standards due to time constraints in post-production during the theatrical release. For the home entertainment version, the team, including animatronic puppeteer Shane Mahan, reverted more to the use of an animatronic puppet based on a head cast from 'Lord of the Rings', which Álvarez claims results in a significantly better visual effect. The film, which was released in theaters last summer, has now been made available on 4K, Blu-ray, DVD, and digital platforms with these enhancements.
