VisitFBI Probes Racist Texts Invoking Slavery and KKK Sent to Black Americans After Election
Nov 8, 2024, 01:31 AM
Racist text messages referencing slavery and invoking white supremacists have been sent to Black individuals across the United States before and after Election Day 2024, prompting investigations by the FBI and other authorities. The anonymous messages, which instructed recipients to report to plantations to pick cotton and mentioned the Ku Klux Klan, have raised alarms in multiple states, including Texas, Michigan, Georgia, Florida, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, and Washington, D.C. Recipients ranged from middle school students to adults, with reports indicating educational institutions were also targeted. Some messages claimed to be from 'A Trump supporter' and contained alarming and threatening language. The FBI has acknowledged the issue, stating they are in contact with the Justice Department and encouraging the public to report any threats. The NAACP condemned the messages, describing them as horrific and unacceptable. Local authorities and organizations are urging those who received the texts to report them to law enforcement as part of the ongoing investigation.
