According to US officials, the hackers compromised networks at multiple telecom companies, stealing customer call records and private communications, including those of individuals involved in government and political activities. The cyber espionage campaign also involved the theft of wiretap data provided to law enforcement through court orders. The US government continues to investigate the People's Republic of China's targeting of commercial telecommunications infrastructure.
