VisitFAA Probes December 27 Near-Miss at LAX Between Gonzaga Team's Jet and Delta Flight, No Injuries
Dec 31, 2024, 12:47 AM
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into a near-miss incident at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) involving a private jet carrying the Gonzaga University men's basketball team and a Delta flight. The incident occurred on December 27, when the Key Lime Air Flight 563, carrying the basketball team from Spokane, Washington, was taxiing to its gate. Air traffic controllers instructed the jet to hold short of crossing a runway as a Delta aircraft was taking off. Despite the instruction, the Embraer E135 jet began to cross the hold bars, prompting the air traffic controller to urgently command, 'Stop, stop, stop.' The jet halted just before crossing the runway edge line, averting a potential collision. No injuries were reported, and the incident is currently under review by the FAA. The Gonzaga team was in Los Angeles for a game against UCLA on December 28.
