Nov 28, 2024, 11:17 AM
Daniel Khalife, a 23-year-old former British soldier, has been found guilty at Woolwich Crown Court of spying for Iran. Khalife had previously admitted to escaping from Wandsworth Prison in September 2023. He was convicted of passing sensitive information to individuals linked with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and gathering the names of special forces personnel. However, he was cleared of carrying out a bomb hoax. The prosecution highlighted the potential threat to national security posed by Khalife's actions. The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command, which worked in conjunction with the Crown Prosecution Service to secure these convictions.
