VisitEx-Penn Student Luigi Mangione, 26, Arrested in UnitedHealthcare CEO Murder with Anti-Healthcare Manifesto
Dec 9, 2024, 07:40 PM
Authorities have identified 26-year-old Luigi Mangione, an ex-student at the University of Pennsylvania and former valedictorian from Maryland, as the suspect in the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Mangione, described as a tech whiz and anti-capitalist climate-change activist, was apprehended at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania. He was found in possession of a firearm with a silencer matching the weapon used in the crime, multiple fake IDs, and a manifesto expressing grievances against the U.S. healthcare industry. Mangione reportedly admired quotes from "Unabomber" Ted Kaczynski and was radicalized by how the healthcare industry treated his sick relative. He is related to a prominent Maryland family and is currently being held at the Blair County Courthouse in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. He has not yet been formally charged.
