Ex-Olenivka Prison Chief Yevsyukov Dies in Donetsk Car Bomb; Wife Injured

Sergey Yevsyukov, the former head of the Olenivka prison colony in Russian-occupied Donetsk, was killed in a car explosion in the center of Donetsk on December 9, 2024. The explosion, reportedly caused by an improvised explosive device placed under the driver's seat of his Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, caused significant damage near the driver's door. Yevsyukov's wife was also in the vehicle and was seriously injured, losing her leg and is currently in critical condition. The Olenivka prison colony had been the site of a massacre of Ukrainian prisoners of war, including Azovstal defenders, in July 2022, for which Yevsyukov was allegedly responsible. Russian authorities have launched a criminal investigation into the incident.
