VisitEverton Sack Dyche; Baines and Coleman to Lead Team Tonight
Jan 9, 2025, 04:43 PM
Everton Football Club has sacked manager Sean Dyche, 58, with immediate effect following a poor run of results that has left the team just one point above the Premier League relegation zone. The decision comes after Everton secured only one win from their last eleven matches and was announced just hours before their FA Cup third-round tie against Peterborough United tonight at 19:45. Former defender Leighton Baines, the club's professional development coach and Under-18s coach, and club captain Seamus Coleman will take interim charge of the team for the match at Goodison Park. The move follows the recent takeover of the club by The Friedkin Group less than a month ago. In a statement, Everton said that Sean Dyche has been "relieved of his duties as Senior Men's First Team Manager with immediate effect." Speculation has already begun regarding Dyche's successor, with former Everton manager David Moyes emerging as the leading contender to return to the club. Everton's new owners are keen to make a swift appointment as they focus on retaining the club's Premier League status.
