VisitEurope's Largest Marine Zoo, Marineland d'Antibes, to Close Permanently on Jan 5, 2025
Dec 4, 2024, 10:04 AM
On December 4, Marineland d'Antibes, Europe's largest marine zoo located in Antibes, France, announced its projected permanent closure on January 5, 2025. The decision comes in response to a 2021 law prohibiting cetacean shows, effectively banning performances involving dolphins and orcas. The park, which has been a significant tourist attraction, will no longer be authorized to keep orcas in captivity for entertainment purposes. A report commissioned by the Ministry for Ecological Transition on the future of the dolphins and orcas held at Marineland was released this month, influencing the park's decision. The future of the neighboring parks, Aquasplash and Adventure Golf, is under discussion and remains uncertain.
