VisitEU, UK Sanction Iran Over Military Support for Russia in Ukraine
Nov 18, 2024, 02:44 PM
The European Union has expanded its sanctions against Iran due to its military support for Russia's war in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that no Iranian ballistic missiles have been delivered to Russia, yet the EU is using this pretext to target Iran's shipping lines. The sanctions include a prohibition on the export of components used in the development of missiles and UAVs, a transaction ban with Iranian ports, and targeting the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) and its director Mohammad Reza Khiabani. The UK has also imposed sanctions on Iran Air, IRISL, and the Russian cargo ship PORT OLYA-3, citing Iran's transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia. These measures are part of efforts to address international security concerns related to Iran's support for Russia's military actions.
