VisitEU Finds Elon Musk's X in Breach of Digital Services Act, Cites Deceptive Practices, Potential 6% Revenue Fine
Jul 12, 2024, 10:01 AM
The European Union has issued a preliminary finding that Elon Musk's social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, is in breach of the Digital Services Act (DSA). The EU accuses X of deceptive practices, particularly concerning its blue checkmark system, which is said to deceive users and infringe DSA transparency requirements. EU Commissioner Thierry Breton stated that X has the right to defend itself, but if the EU's view is confirmed, significant changes and fines could be imposed. The potential fine could be as high as 6% of X's revenue. The EU has reportedly issued a final warning to X under the censorship law.
