The European Commission has escalated its investigation into X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, over concerns that it may have breached the EU's content moderation rules. The Commission, led by Henna Virkkunen, the European Commissioner for Tech Sovereignty, has requested X to provide internal documentation on its recommender system and any recent changes by the February 15, 2025 deadline. Additionally, a retention order has been issued, requiring X to preserve documents related to future changes in its algorithms until the end of 2025. The investigation, initiated in December 2023, focuses on ensuring X's compliance with the Digital Services Act (DSA), which aims to create a fair, safe, and democratic online environment for European citizens.
