VisitEU Allocates €120 Million for Gaza Aid Following Ceasefire and Hostage Deal
Jan 16, 2025, 12:13 PM
The European Union has announced a new humanitarian aid package worth 120 million euros ($123 million) for Gaza, following the announcement of a ceasefire and hostage release deal between Israel and Hamas. The aid aims to address the 'catastrophic situation' in Gaza, focusing on providing emergency food aid, medical assistance, and equipment to improve access to clean water. This initiative comes after the UK, a former EU member, had already announced substantial aid for Gaza, with 19 million pounds (approximately 22 million euros) for Gaza and an additional 7 million pounds (about 8.2 million euros) for the UNRWA. The ceasefire agreement, which is expected to facilitate better access to humanitarian aid, includes a phased approach to the release of 33 hostages in exchange for nearly 1,000 Palestinian prisoners.
