VisitEtsy Introduces New Seller Policy to Address AI-Generated Products, Says CEO Josh Silverman
Jul 9, 2024, 12:35 PM
Etsy has introduced new guidelines in its seller policy to address the influx of AI-generated and generic products on its platform. The revised policy, announced on Tuesday, requires items to be listed as either 'made by a seller,' 'designed by a seller,' 'sourced by a seller,' or 'handpicked by a seller.' This move aims to ensure transparency and help buyers distinguish between genuinely handmade items and those generated by AI. Etsy CEO Josh Silverman emphasized that the company is positioning itself to answer the call for original goods and real people, moving away from the 'race to the bottom' and returning to its artisan roots. The platform is also shedding its 'handmade' and 'vintage' labels as it competes with major e-commerce players like Temu and Amazon.
