Aug 10, 2024, 08:11 AM
Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia won the men's Olympic marathon in Paris, setting a new Olympic record with a time of 2:06:26. This victory marks a significant achievement as Tola becomes the only person to win the Olympic marathon, World Championships marathon, and New York City Marathon in his career. Tola was added to the Olympic field just two weeks prior as an injury replacement. This gold medal is the first for Ethiopia in the men's marathon since the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Emile Cairess of Great Britain finished in fourth place, marking the best performance by a British marathoner since Paula Radcliffe's retirement.
