Aug 4, 2024, 07:47 PM
Ethan Katzberg of Nanaimo, B.C., has made history by winning the gold medal in the men's hammer throw at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Katzberg's throw of 84.12 meters not only secured him the top spot but also marked the first time a Canadian has ever won gold in this event. This victory is Canada's first medal in the hammer throw in 112 years, with the last being a silver in 1912. Katzberg's performance was dominant, outthrowing his nearest competitor by nearly five meters. At 22 years old, he is also the youngest Olympic champion in hammer throw history. This win continues Canada's streak of winning a medal every day of the Olympics since the opening ceremony, bringing their total medal count to 17. Katzberg achieved this feat at the Stade de France on Sunday night in Paris.
