VisitEpic Sues Google and Samsung Over Auto Blocker Requiring 21 Steps to Install Fortnite
Sep 30, 2024, 11:03 AM
Epic Games, the maker of 'Fortnite', has filed a lawsuit against Google and Samsung, accusing them of illegally colluding to block competition on Samsung devices. The lawsuit alleges that Samsung's Auto Blocker feature, which is turned on by default on new Samsung phones, prevents users from installing apps from sources other than Google's Play Store or Samsung's Galaxy Store. According to Epic, it takes 21 steps to install Fortnite on a new Samsung device due to these restrictions, which they argue is anti-competitive and undermines the openness of Android devices. Additionally, Epic plans to bring this issue to the attention of the European Union. This is not the first time Epic has taken legal action against major tech giants over app store policies.
