EPA Announces $3 Billion from Infrastructure Law for Lead Pipe Replacement, 40% for Low-Income Areas

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, signed by President Biden, has facilitated a significant allocation of funds across the United States for the replacement of lead pipes to ensure safe drinking water. A total of $3 billion, announced by the EPA, has been allocated to identify and replace lead service lines nationwide. This investment aims to protect public health and advance environmental justice, with at least 40% of the funds specifically directed towards low-income and minority communities. States such as New Jersey, Illinois, and Ohio have received substantial amounts, with New Jersey and Ohio getting $123 million and $184 million respectively, while Illinois has been allocated $240 million. Other states like Maine, Arizona, and Minnesota have also received significant funding, with Maine and Arizona each securing over $28.6 million and Minnesota receiving more than $86.5 million.
