Environmental Groups and Florida Settle 2021 Piney Point Pollution Lawsuit

Environmental groups have reached an agreement with Florida officials to settle a federal lawsuit filed in 2021 following polluted discharges from a fertilizer plant waste site called Piney Point into Tampa Bay. The discharges led to fish kills and red tide. The settlement involves the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and includes a draft Clean Water Act permit for the phosphogypsum facility in Manatee County.
