Sep 3, 2024, 10:29 AM
ENI and SNAM have launched Italy's first carbon capture and storage (CCS) project, named Ravenna CCS, according to a press release. The project aims to capture, transport, and store CO₂ emissions from ENI’s natural gas treatment plant. In its initial phase, the project is expected to capture approximately 25,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year. The second phase will scale up to store up to 4 million tonnes of CO₂ annually. Additionally, the companies are conducting research and development studies for the potential future reuse of the captured CO₂. Ultimately, the volumes of CO₂ captured and stored underground could reach 16 million tonnes per year.
