VisitEmmy-Winning Scientology Whistleblower Mike Rinder Dies at 69 After Cancer Battle
Jan 5, 2025, 11:06 PM
Mike Rinder, a former high-ranking Scientology executive turned whistleblower, has passed away at the age of 69. Rinder, who co-hosted the Emmy-winning docuseries "Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath" alongside Leah Remini, was a vocal critic of the Church of Scientology. He left the organization in 2007 after serving in various senior roles, including as the head of the Office of Special Affairs. Rinder later dedicated his life to exposing the alleged abuses within Scientology, including its disconnection policy and harassment practices. He also co-hosted the podcast "Scientology: Fair Game" and authored a memoir, "A Billion Years: My Escape From a Life in the Highest Ranks of Scientology." Diagnosed with advanced esophageal cancer in June 2023, Rinder's death was confirmed by his wife, Christie King Collbran, who shared his parting words expressing regret for not ending Scientology's abuses and his hope for continued efforts to address them. Rinder, born in Adelaide, Australia, won two Emmy awards for his work. His wife announced his passing on Instagram, and his final blog post reflected on his life's work and his wish for others to continue the fight against Scientology's practices. He is survived by his wife, their two sons, and his step-son.
