In a thrilling men's 800m final at the Paris Olympics, Kenya's Emmanuel Wanyonyi narrowly edged out Canada's Marco Arop to win the gold medal by just 0.01 seconds. Arop, who broke his own Canadian record with a time of 1:41.20, secured the silver medal, marking a significant achievement for Canada in the event. Algeria's Djamel Sedjati took the bronze. The race was one of the fastest in history, with four runners finishing with times in the 1:41 range. American Bryce Hoppel finished fourth, setting a new American national record with a time of 1:41.67.
