VisitElon Musk Criticizes FCC and FEMA Over Hurricane Helene Response, Sends 30 More Starlink Units
Oct 4, 2024, 05:14 PM
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced that the company is sending additional Starlink terminals to North Carolina to aid in the recovery efforts following the devastation of Hurricane Helene. Musk criticized the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for pulling a Starlink award, which he claims would have helped victims and risked lives. He also accused the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) of obstructing relief efforts by blocking shipments and seizing aid, preventing the delivery of critical supplies. Despite these challenges, SpaceX engineers are working to deliver the terminals and supplies. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg intervened after Musk raised concerns, leading to expedited support flights. Additionally, 30 more units were delivered to Newport, TN, and one of the Starlinks was installed to get Del Rio, TN's fire department back online.
