Sep 15, 2024, 07:41 AM
Several migrants have died while attempting to cross the English Channel from France to England. French regional authorities confirmed that at least eight people lost their lives overnight in the early hours of Sunday off the coast of Ambleteuse in northern France. A boat carrying around 50 people got into difficulty in waters north of Boulogne-sur-Mer in Pas-de-Calais. The French Coastguard reported that the eight migrants who lost their lives were found dead on the beach. This incident comes less than two weeks after the deadliest such disaster this year, bringing the total number of deaths in the Channel crossing attempts to at least 45 for 2024. Maritime authorities reported that 200 people were rescued in the past 24 hours over Friday and Saturday.
