EigenLayer's official X (formerly Twitter) account has been compromised and is being used to promote a fake airdrop of its $EIGEN token, according to multiple online reports. Users are being warned not to click on any links posted by the account, particularly links to malicious domains such as eligible-eigenfoundation[.]org and claimed-eigenfoundation[.]org, as they may lead to phishing scams. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT confirmed the hack, noting that the compromised account is sharing fake links and reallocation posts. Some reports indicate that victims have been scammed out of multiple wrapped ETH tokens, including swETH, mETH, and eETH, with total losses estimated at around $800,000 to $1 million. EigenLayer representatives have acknowledged the breach and are advising users to avoid engaging with any suspicious links until the situation is resolved. Cybersecurity experts note that there have been many similar cases recently of X and Discord accounts being compromised. The incident raises concerns about the security measures of protocols like EigenLayer, which is securing $11 billion worth of restaked ETH.
