VisitE. coli Outbreak: One Dead, 15 Hospitalized Across 18 States Linked to Grimmway Farms Carrots
Nov 17, 2024, 10:29 PM
An E. coli O121:H9 outbreak linked to organic carrots has resulted in one death and 39 illnesses across 18 U.S. states, including eight cases in Washington, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Grimmway Farms of Bakersfield, California, has issued a nationwide recall of its organic whole and baby carrots sold under more than a dozen brand names, including 365, Cal-Organic, Nature’s Promise, O Organics, Trader Joe’s, and Wegmans. The affected products were distributed to major retailers such as Walmart, Target, Kroger, Publix, Albertsons, Food Lion, Whole Foods, and Sprouts, as well as in Canada and Puerto Rico. Fifteen people have been hospitalized. The CDC announced the outbreak on Sunday and advises consumers to check their homes for recalled bagged organic carrots and discard them. Carrots currently on store shelves are not affected by the recall.
