VisitDR Congo Army Foils Attempted Coup in Kinshasa, Three Dead

The Democratic Republic of Congo's army announced it has thwarted an attempted coup in Kinshasa. The incident involved both Congolese and foreign fighters who attacked the residence of Vital Kamerhe, the Deputy Prime Minister of Economy. A shootout ensued, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including two guards and one attacker. The army has arrested several perpetrators, including foreign militants. The attackers aimed to seize the Palace of the Nation and the residence of Kamerhe. The coup attempt was quashed early Sunday morning, and the army has detained multiple suspects. The attempted coup was against President Felix Tshikedi, and the announcement was made by army spokesperson Brig. Gen. Sylvain Ekenge.
