VisitDOJ Sues Dali Ship Owner for $100M Over Baltimore Bridge Collapse That Killed Six
Sep 18, 2024, 03:20 PM
The U.S. Justice Department has filed a lawsuit seeking more than $100 million against the owner and operator of the Singapore-flagged cargo ship Dali, which struck and destroyed the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore in March. The lawsuit accuses the ship's owner, Synergy, and operator, Grace Ocean Private Limited, of negligence and mismanagement, alleging that the Dali was 'jury-rigged' and 'abjectly unseaworthy' before the incident. The collapse of the bridge, described as 'entirely avoidable,' resulted in the deaths of six workers and caused significant disruptions to the region's transportation network. The government is seeking to recover costs incurred for cleanup and reopening the port, as well as punitive damages.
