Oct 3, 2024, 05:09 PM
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and Microsoft have successfully disrupted operations of a Russian intelligence-backed hacking group known as Star Blizzard or Cold River. This group has been targeting U.S. officials, civil society, and various Western think tanks, journalists, and former military and intelligence officials. The UK has also sanctioned a cybercrime gang charged by Russia with attacking NATO. Microsoft's actions were part of a coordinated effort with U.S. authorities to combat these cyber threats, including spear-phishing efforts. Civil society played a key role in the lawsuit.
