VisitDOJ Charges Three IRGC-Linked Iranians in Hack-and-Leak of Trump's 2024 Campaign
Sep 27, 2024, 04:42 PM
The U.S. Department of Justice unsealed criminal charges on Friday against three Iranian nationals accused of hacking into former President Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign. The individuals, identified as members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), allegedly conducted a "hack-and-leak" operation by stealing emails from campaign members and attempting to disseminate the information to media organizations in an effort to influence the upcoming November election. Attorney General Merrick Garland described the operation as a "deliberate effort" to undermine Trump's election prospects. The indictment includes photographs of the alleged hackers and details about their activities over a four-year period, which also targeted other U.S. government agencies. The Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on one of the men and six others involved in election interference efforts.
