VisitDisneyland Workers in Anaheim Vote 99% to Authorize Potential Strike Over Labor Practices
Jul 20, 2024, 09:10 AM
Thousands of Disneyland workers in Anaheim, California have voted overwhelmingly to authorize a potential strike, citing unfair labor practices and demanding higher wages and improved working conditions. The vote, which saw 99% approval from the over 14,000 employees represented by four unions, marks the first strike authorization at Disney's original resort in 40 years. Workers, including ride operators, candy makers, and ticket takers, have rallied outside the park, protesting alleged anti-union practices and low pay. Union leaders, including Teamsters Local 495, now have the option to call a strike if contract negotiations with Disney fail to yield a new agreement.
